Environmental Policy

Our approach

At Creative by Nature, our work is rooted in a connection with the natural world. We believe that spending time outdoors should encourage curiosity, respect and care for the places we visit.

We aim to minimise the environmental impact of our activities while helping children, educators and communities develop a greater understanding of and connection with nature. Our approach is guided by the principles of Leave No Trace and by practical, thoughtful choices in how we run our courses and business.

Caring for outdoor spaces

We take care to protect the woodland, green spaces and other natural environments where our courses take place. We:

  • Follow Leave No Trace principles and encourage participants to do the same.
  • Avoid unnecessary disturbance to plants, wildlife and habitats.
  • Take care not to damage vegetation or disturb wildlife, particularly during sensitive seasonal periods.
  • Leave outdoor spaces as we find them and take all waste away with us.
  • Adapt activities where necessary to protect the environment and respond to seasonal or weather conditions.

Environmental awareness is also part of our teaching. Through Forest School, nature camps and other courses, we encourage children and adults to notice the natural world and understand how their actions can affect it.

Reducing waste

We aim to reduce waste and make good use of the resources we already have. Where practical, we:

  • Use reusable equipment and containers rather than single-use alternatives.
  • Reuse materials for creative activities.
  • Choose recycled, recyclable or responsibly sourced materials where appropriate.
  • Avoid unnecessary packaging and printing.
  • Recycle waste where suitable facilities are available.

When using natural materials in activities, we do so thoughtfully and avoid collecting materials where this could damage the environment.

Travel and purchasing

We recognise that travel and purchasing contribute to our environmental impact. Where practical, we encourage walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing when travelling to activities.

When purchasing equipment and materials, we consider their durability, usefulness, potential for reuse and environmental impact, as well as supporting local suppliers where appropriate.

We also aim to minimise unnecessary energy and resource use in the day-to-day running of the business, including through digital rather than printed materials where possible.

Environmental learning

Environmental responsibility is not only about reducing our own impact. A key part of Creative by Nature is helping people develop a lasting connection with the natural world.

Our programmes encourage participants to explore local habitats, notice seasonal changes, learn about plants and wildlife, and develop practical ways of caring for the places around them.

Review

We recognise that environmental responsibility is an ongoing process. We will review our practices regularly and look for practical ways to further reduce our environmental impact as Creative by Nature develops.
