Forest School for Schools
Creative by Nature works with primary schools to bring Forest School, outdoor learning and nature-based activities directly to school grounds and local sites.
Through practical, creative and play-based sessions, children have the opportunity to explore their surroundings, develop confidence and learn through direct experience of the natural world.

Who it's for?
Primary school children, with sessions adapted to suit different age groups, class sizes and school settings.
No previous experience is needed. Activities can be adapted to different abilities and levels of confidence.
Where?
Sessions can take place in your school grounds or at a suitable local outdoor site.
You don’t need a woodland on your doorstep. Forest School activities can work in school gardens, green spaces and other natural environments.
What happens?
Practical, creative sessions outdoors, with activities such as nature exploration, games, den building, fire lighting and natural crafts.
Activities are shaped by the children, the environment and the season.
What is Forest School?
Forest School is a child-led, play-based approach to learning outdoors. Children return to a natural setting over time, giving them the opportunity to build confidence, develop practical skills and form a deeper connection with the natural world.
At Creative by Nature, Forest School is led by Siobhán Sloane, a qualified Forest School Leader and Heritage in Schools Specialist. Her approach is rooted in curiosity, creativity and giving children the freedom to explore, play and discover through direct experience.
Sessions can support children to:
- build confidence and independence
- develop practical and problem-solving skills
- work together and communicate
- engage creatively with the natural world
- develop curiosity and observation skills
- learn through play, exploration and hands-on experience
Forest School Through Heritage in Schools
Bring a Forest School session to your school through the Heritage in Schools programme.
Siobhán is a registered Heritage in Schools Specialist, bringing nature and outdoor learning into primary schools through hands-on, curriculum-linked experiences.
Sessions can be arranged for individual classes or groups and can be adapted around your school’s interests, age groups and outdoor space.

Do we need woodland or forest on our school grounds?
No. Sessions can take place in school grounds or another suitable outdoor space. Siobhán can work with the environment you have available.
What age groups can take part?
Sessions are primarily designed for primary school children and can be adapted for different ages.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Forest School takes place outdoors in all weather, with activities adapted to suit the conditions. Children should come prepared with appropriate outdoor clothing.

Yes. Activities can connect with areas including nature, biodiversity, science, art, local heritage and outdoor learning.
